The Latest Trends in Home Automation Now and Into the Future

Smart homes provide unmatched ease, comfort, and beauty, making it hard to return to traditional living once you adopt automated technology. Whether you're entertaining, cooking, or relaxing, your home adjusts for the occasion, creating the ideal climate, lighting, and entertainment for the moment.

As with all technology, smart homes are evolving rapidly, moving from one-touch control to homes managed by sensors, time of day, a person’s location, and their voice. In 2026, expectations are even higher, with artificial intelligence (AI) creating proactive homes that respond to your needs before you even ask.

Here, we’ll explore some of the exciting advancements in smart home living in 2025 and what to look forward to as the New Year unfolds.

Some of 2025’s Smart Technology Highlights

Savant, a leader in luxury smart home automation, released several new smart products in 2025. These include expansions to its Cync Dynamic Effects line with café lights and outdoor light strips that sync with music. These lights offer millions of colors, creating custom light shows as they change and move to the beat of the music. By integrating with the Savant home automation system, you can press a button to adjust the lights for any event, along with all interior and exterior lighting, motorized shades, climate control, security, and entertainment.

It was a big year for smart lighting, with Lutron, a global leader in advanced LED lighting systems and control, announcing three new lighting families. Lumaris Downlights and Tunable White Tape Light offer elegant illumination with color temperatures ranging from 1800K to 4000K, which can be adjusted with the touch of a button.

Crestron continues to focus on making the smart home experience more intuitive and fun. In the entertainment sector, they added DM NVX Multiview, which lets you view up to six video sources simultaneously on a single display. This offers the ideal solution for game days or keeping an eye on camera feeds.

Coastal Source, one of our favorite outdoor living manufacturers at Rich AV Design, introduced new outdoor speakers that integrate seamlessly with home automation platforms. The Ovation in-ceiling speakers feature an oversized, patented elliptical driver for powerful bass and a circular ribbon tweeter for smooth, distinct treble, ideal for demanding outdoor environments.

From Smart to Intelligent

The North American smart home trajectory is on a steep rise. According to Precedence Research, the market size was estimated at $45.48 billion in 2024. This is expected to grow at an unprecedented Compound Annual Growth Rate (CAGR) of 27.11% to 2034. One of the reasons for this impressive growth is the integration of AI, making smart homes truly intelligent.

Because AI learns, it comes to know your preferences, household routines, and habits. This understanding enables it to seamlessly and effortlessly manage your smart home.

Discrete voice control will also be AI-enhanced, creating an intuitive smart home experience. Natural language processing enables it to learn patterns and provide suggestions. Do you have a specific type of music you like to relax to? It may have some tips that take your relaxation to the next level, like changing the lighting to the color of a tropical sea while streaming Hapa’s Hawaiian music.

AI will also continue to advance home security, alerting homeowners to potential threats before they occur. Due to its capacity to learn, it comes to understand a home’s usual activity and differentiate it from aggressive or abnormal behavior. It can also tell the difference between strangers, family members, and friends who regularly stop by.

Health & Wellness Integration

2026 is expected to see a strong drive in the health and wellness sector with home automation platforms integrating with sleep patterns, air quality, and other monitors, including wearables.

Optimized Energy Management

Energy management systems continue to evolve, integrating green energy sources that can be used effortlessly day or night and automatically switched to in the event of a power outage. In 2026, you can expect optimized management through automated dynamic load balancing and solar forecasting. These systems create greater sustainable lifestyles, automatically reducing a home’s carbon footprint.
