IT administrator, streaming media specialist, web developer, TV production engineer and home theater designer, Josh Rich is a man of many talents.
Josh Studied Communications through college with a concentration in TV & radio production. By 21, Josh had a paid internship with the national NBC affiliate in Los Angeles where he learned live and on-demand webcasting, an industry just in its infancy. He also interned at the Carsey-Werner company in Los Angeles helping edit shows like Cybill, 3rd Rock from the Sun, and That 70’s Show. He came back to New York in '98 to assist with NBC’s first live webcast of their Daytime Emmy Awards.
In the summer of '99, Josh graduated from Ithaca College with a Bachelors Degree in Communications and Television and Radio Production. Fresh out of college, Josh was hired by a local IT recruiting company where he helped create a website that could search for and view in realtime on-demand video resumes of candidates. He also acted as the company's IT administrator.
In the midst of the dot com boom, Josh joined Microcast, a Content Distribution Network (CDN) in Danbury, Connecticut. Starting as an encoding engineer, Josh spent months working with encoding algorithms to come up with the best possible streaming video quality at the lowest possible bandwidth.
Joining HB Group Inc. Josh brought his knowledge of television production, IT networks, web design and streaming video technologies to help them develop a streaming video department. He spent most of his six years there streaming cutting edge surgery live from the operating rooms of hospitals nationwide. (Most notable was a webcast from Fargo North Dakota of Intuitive Surgical’s Da’Vinci robot which drew a large enough audience to bring down the internet in that region for about 15 minutes.)
While at HB Group Inc. Josh gained an interest in the residential home theater market, now known as the fully automated “connected home.” Since its inception in 2001, Rich AV Design LLC has won multiple awards including Savant System’s first “Best Savant System 12” installation. Josh and Rich AV Design have successfully designed home technology systems for multiple Fortune 500 and Fortune 50 CEO’s as well as for hundreds of high end homes. His highly coveted designs can incorporate everything from audio video distribution, motorized shades, lighting, security camera systems, and HVAC to elaborate pools and fountains.
